Church of Christ
CUMBERNAULD
Last week saw the rather incredible phenomenon of a closer than usual moon, eclipsed by the Earth, and in January. Thankfully, it has a rather cooler name than the description suggests.
The Bible uses names to get a positive impression across. Isaiah means “salvation by God”; Israel means “prince with God”; Rachel means “innocent lamb”, etc. It was thought a name should remind a child of why they exist and Whom they should love.
In the New Testament, the name “Christian” appears three times (Acts 11:26; 26:28; I Peter 4:16). The word appears suddenly and seems to have no known origin other than these verses. Yet, it is a name that has resonated through the centuries since the New Testament was written. When the name is worn by the disciple who closely follows the Christ, it is far better than any description!
